hi new to the forum we have an older 60" projection screen rca tv that was hit with 240 volts through the wall plugs when an electrician wired that curcuit wrong but was turned on for a second with out tv being on but fried something tv will not work & has a small sizzling sound but smelled like rotten cabage when it was first hit with 240 any help would be appreciated ( maybe a fuse or something please help i miss my tv) chassis # ptk195st model # is apartial it has been torn off all i have left is 61929 |

This set has a switched mode power supply and is in a standby mode even when the set is off. This power supply WILL be damaged with 240 volts and the Electrician would surely be liable. I would, at the very least, check with your home owners insurance.
You should not have to pay for or be responsible for the actions of another.

i would guess that the electrician was probably a do-it-yourselfer. no electrician worth their salt would ever make such an elementary mistake. |

he will pay but my home owners is 1000 deductible i just want to help him out by trying to repair it this old house had a 4 wire type curcuit coming out of upper wall from the previous owner but the split it off into 2 curcuits un known to us or electrician so i am trying to work with him can you tell me where i can locate that power supply & what kind off cost for that item would i expect to pay tv may not worth fixing , i did find complete model # it is p61929 |

I would guess you're looking at a couple of fried capacitors in the primary stages of the power supply. With that kind of situation, you could be looking at any number of things though. |

tks there is a capacitor (i think ) near the fuse about the size of a roll of nickles with #s like 204 on it ,it has some kind of jell that has oozed out of it where it split open maybe that ? |

I think I would also check the bridge rectifiers for being shorted while you have the board out for repair. The downside is that after your get the power supply up and running, it is quite possible other parts of set have been damaged. Although it is less likely.
