When I turn on tv, I get a black screen with a white horizontal line in the middle of the screen, no picture, and no sound.
I first thought this might be the vertical IC being overheated and needing a re-solder of the pins, but then it occurred to me that if there is no sound, it may be something else
If there is no sound, could there be a problem somewhere other than the vertical IC?
To put it another way, if the vertical IC is the problem, would that cause the 'no sound' issue as well?
Thanks, I really dont want to open up the set if the 'no sound' issue is indicative of a more serious problem beyond the vertical IC needing resoldered. |

IC go bad. The source that powers that IC does NOT like to see a shorted IC, so its surge resistor opens. This source is now unavailable to any circuits it would normally power. |
