I originally thought this Hitachi 50SBX70B had a convergence problem because the top was bowed. But after changing the STK's its no longer bowed on top. But will start bowing in on the sides after 5 minutes or so. Then it actually after turn off would not come on with the remote or power button. All the led test lamps were off. Then after a half hour unplugged I went thru the whole thing again and now will not respond to the front power switch. Anyone run into this before? I'd really appreciate any tips.

I think the 5v standby lamp should be lit when plugged in.

Bill,

Try pulling out R,G,B convergence yoke plugs and
see if the set powers up and all 8 green
LEDs should come on. If not, you have another
problem. I suspect, from your description, the
STKs replaced may be defective, I use Sanyo only
STKs. I have the complete manual on this set
if you need further help.

I have a problem similar, I had replaced the stk"s IC's with stk-180's weird
stuff started to develop... I changed back to the originals and all is
well. The need to use original parts in an issue.

After a good night sleep I went back to the shop and worked on this set
again. In my frustration I missed the half unplugged FPA connector which
solved my On/Off problem.I went thru the entire Horiz section and checked
all parts starting in the 700's and found an open non-polarized cap. C729 a
6.8M/50v This was causing the bowing and this straightened everything out.
Thanks for all the responses.
