Father in law has a 50UX53K that has "died". It shows a manufacture date of August, 1997. Power light comes on on the front, LEDs light up on the circuit boards inside. No sound, no picture. When toggling the input button on the front, you can a faint "thud" in the speakers. Any ideas? Is it even worth the time to try an fix?

I usually check convergence first. Could also be regulator or even vertical output.

Thanks for the reply. I'm not experienced in TV repair but am not afraid to get out the soldering iron with some professional guidance. As a result I'm all but lost when it comes to diagnosing the problem. When I pulled the panel off tonight there was absolutely no indication of the projection "guns" lighting up at all. I could see a couple green LEDs on some circuit boards lit up and one red one towards the back. I tried looking for blown capacitors and couldn't readily see any.

I'm really just wondering if it's worth fixing a 13 year old TV in the first place. Is it only a matter of time before something else goes wrong?
