Hey guys, I just got this TV on craigslist for free.
Upon powering on, the green light comes on as if it's working fine, but no display AT ALL, it's not just backlight out.
I opened it up and looked at it, all caps look fine, and all connections look secure, nothing shorting out.
I see small Surface Mount LEDs lighting up on a side board, the power supply board, and the main logic board, so the power is getting ditributed fine (I think?) I have literally quadruple checked all the caps looking for a bad one, they all look fine!
What am I missing? Really want this thing to work; a free 32" lcd will be nice
Thanks in advance. |

Did (insert the name of your higher power here) issue you the "Special" eyes/glasses that will detect the actually defective (but "looks" good) electrolytics?
By the way, what's "ditributed?" (?angry power?) |

No, but none of them show any of the signs of a bad capacitor.
And I think you know that that was a simple typo of the word distributed. Sorry I missed a letter and that destroyed your entire train of thought...
Edit: That was your post #1234. Interesting fact. |

You HAVE measured each for (at least) "value" and "ESR" (Equiv. Series Resistance)?
Now I'm at 1235.

Nope, zapped my multimeter earlier by mistake. How can I do this? I always have a spare analog multimeter somewhere.
Thanks for response. |

Try replacing capacitors 2080 & 2079 (1200ufd@35v) 2068 (22ufd@25v) and 2086 (2.2ufd@50v) in the power supply.
That's 1236. |

Don't know. I haven't set foot in a RatShack since the early 90's. |

My radio shack only sells cell phones, batteries, and satellite receivers.
caps can be ordered from mouser.com or digikey.com for quite cheap if your radio shack doesn't sell them. |
