Hello all,

I just got a 51" or so Magnavox HD projection TV with model number 51mp392H/17. I picked it up curbside, and i want to see if i can fix it up. When plugged in, the power light turns on (red) and stays on for a few seconds then turns off, and this repeats for a few times. I didn't count how many because I didn't know this was an error code.

Looking at the guts of it, nothing appears burnt out or broken, but i've read a lot online about horizontal output transistors being a common problem in TVs like this. I have no idea what that is or where i would find it in the TV. Could this be the problem? Where would i find a replacement, and how would i go about replacing it?

I have basic experience soldering and working with circuits but TVs are a little out of my league. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

The Tv is sitting in my friend's garage and i won't have access to it until Friday, when i can try out all of your suggestions. Thanks for any help you can provide!

When viewing the set from the back, look at the left circuit board. There is a double large heat sink on the right edge of the board that has the convergence chips on them. Look close to the rear edge of the circuit board. There are some gray resistors, 1 watt, standing up with 1/4 inch clearance between the resistors and the board. If you have one of the resistors showing heat damage, your convergence chips have failed and have shut your set down. USE A LIGHT. Sometimes the overheating is not obvious without good light.

If you have a burn't resistor it will be necessary to replace the convergence chips. Replace them as a pair.

Hope this helps

Jesse
