I was given a Mitsubishi VS-5059 a few months back for free, and it worked pretty well for a few months with only a few issues:

1) The red convergence is off a litle at the top and bottom of the screen. It's slightly noticable on the crosshairs when you do the standard convergence adjusting through the menu. Text on the screen has red shadows at the top and bottom of the screen, but not in the center.
2) Every so often the picure takes n an extreme green hue, and holds it until the scene changes. Lots of blue seems to trigger it, but it happens other times as well.

This stuff I could live with, but then the picture started going completely off (sounds would continue).

I had it repaired, and now it stays on, but the otehr two issues are still there and I'd like to take a shot at fixing them if possible. Here's what the repairman did:
rebuilt vert circuit
rebuilt convergence
rebuilt power supply
set-up and adjusted

He did not try to adjust the red convergence because it wasn't digital and would have taken alot of time, which he (correctly) figured I didn't want to invest $$ in.

I'd be happy to spend the time to adjust the red myself if it's possible, but have no idea where to start. Can someone point me down the right path? This is my first time working with TV's (as you have probably already guessed), and I'm no electrical engineer (M.E., though).

The green deal is probably more involved, so I'll be happy just to bring the red into shape at this point. Thanks!

Progress....

After a deeper Google search I saw this writeup:
http://www.cinemasource.com/articles/calib_video_proj.pdf

and figured I needed to adjust the red skew (and proably more). After digging around furhter I found out that you can get to the service mode for convergence with MENU-2-3-5-9-4.

After tweaking the red SKEW and BOW it's alot better. I'll spend more time checking out what the other configurations do as well. I wrote down the original settings for all of them so I can hopefully go back if it gets messed up.

From the test on the service menus it looks like the green letters have a little halo under them, while the red is perfect. Maybe I need to focus the green?

I have to pull to apart today to blow the Doral smoke residue out of it (an added bonus from the TV repairman after a month in his shop), so I'll hunt for the manual focus controls at that point.

Any input is appreciated - thanks!
