I'm working on this plasma, I found 1 power MOSFET on the power board was a dead short, 7005. This is a 500v, 16 amp mosfet just downstream from the fuse that blows upon turning the set on. I replaced both 7005 and 7006 (they're a pair) but the fuse (T3, 3.15amp) still blows. I'm thinking there's something downstream that was affected but haven't found anything obvious. Has anyone run into this? I've checked most of the diodes but I'm not sure checking while on the board is giving me good information on their condition. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! |

I thought I'd share my results/success with this repair. The original MOSFET 7005 was definitely shorted, I replaced it with a model with very similar characteristics from Digikey. However the replacement model was in package TO-220, which has the metal tab for heat sink mounting. The original was an all-plastic case, the Max220. With the heat sink attached, it blew the fuse, detached the tv worked fine. I electrically insulated the component from the heat sink, no more blown fuse, tv works fine. I'll replace the new mosfet with one that has the correct case but for now the tv is back in service. |
