Hello:
My coworker has a RCA rear projection TV that sizzled and shut down. I have read that the HV splitter cracks and arcs, taking out several components.
Is the splitter part of the PCB, or chassis mounted? Can I just swap the board to make this repair, or do I need to replace specific components per the bulletin?
If someone has access to a schematic, or service manual I would be grateful.
I worked in the TV repair business in the late 1970s through the early 1980s, but am not that familiar with rear projection TVs. I am glad I found this forum!
Any advice, tips, or help is appreciated. Have a nice day,
Bill |

The splitter should be separate from the board. It should have 1 large red wire going into it, and 3 large red wires coming out of it.
(It splits the high voltage from the flyback transformer to the 3 CRTs, hence the name splitter) |

If anyone has a parts list, schematic, or any service info on this I would be grateful. I have researched that the splitter takes out a transistor, and a few passive components, but I am not sure about the parts required.
Also, I see that "TV03005" is a Thompson Bulletin that explains the fix for this TV, but I cannot locate a copy anywhere.
Thanks for any advice, and have a nice day, Bill |

I have a copy of that service bulletin, but cannot post it, due to copyrights. It is for chassis ATC311 ptv for serial number prior to D15xxxxxx, regarding High voltage splitter failure.
Symptom: High Voltage arcing sounds, sound but no picture, no HV, or R14705 failure
Fix: replace splitter with RCA #258512 and R14705=#238958=27k .5W 10% carbon resistor. |

Well, I am still fighting this set. I can get the splitter loose from the chassis, but I cannot get the HV cables out?
Do I have to discharge each CRT and pull the HV lead from the anode button on the CRT?
Thanks for any advice; you guys have been very helpful.
Have a nice day,
