Sad

Sharp 25VTJ100

Set comes on, good picture, good sound, no hum, no distortions, all functions work, BUT,

after a few seconds, one of the 2 power diodes gets REAL HOT and the set dies! Diode is fried, replacement did the same.

Suggestions?
Where might I find a schematic for this old set?

Can we be a little bit more specific?

"one of the 2 power diodes gets REAL HOT and the set dies! Diode is fried, replacement did the same." As in one of the four diodes (D701 - D704) of the power supply bridge? Not taking out fuse?

At the back centerish of the pcb are TWO large diodes, about 3 to 5 Amp size, one of these, the right I recall is the one failing, the other doesn't get hot at all.

No, the fuse, or breaker does not blow.

My suspicion would be a focus transistor going south but I have no schematic and insufficient time to "finger" test it if/when I find it. Could be a filter cap but I would expect other indications (distortions) if it were.

Confused

I have replaced the failing diode with two parallel diodes but don't want to fry anything else, and yes, they get hot rather fast too. I use on 10 sec/off 60 so things are slow.

Anywhere I can download a schematic?

Confused

Thanks for the URL for the manual. HOWEVER, even though I have a PDF reader installed, the site refuses to download the manual without first downloading the Nuance PDF reader, TILT since I am not authorized to install software on this machine. Is there any workaround?????

Each part mounted on PC board should have a location/ID number assigned to it.

Most people press "GET MANUAL." Adobe reader should work.

I'll take a look at the componant ID when I get home tonight.

When I klik on "get manual", it goes to the PDF reader download page even though I have already the A----e 9 reader on this machine. Sure would like to get that manual though, could you attach it to an e-mail to me?
