Sharp LC-15AV7U screen lights up with no background. Anybody have any luck with this model?

Not sure if this is exactly what you are experiencing, but I have had
several of that model that had a backlight issue. one lamp would not light,
so you would see a blue screen for a few seconds, before it would shut
itself off. If this is your problem, examine the screen closely while it is
up, and see if there is a band across it that shows slightly darker. I have
fixed one of these by soldering connections in the inverter circuit. The
others required main board replacement.

Sharp has an issue with many of their sets and the fix is simple for about 50% of them.

Remove the inverter and clean the oxide from the ground points and reinstall the inverter and make sure the screws are tight. Loose screws are causing the problem.
