Hi all,
I have a Sony TV (KDL-55XBR8) that failed 3 weeks outside the extended warranty. The kids tried to turn it on Sunday morning, and it wouldn't turn on, it just tried starting (green light blinks a few times), then started blinking the red Standby light 13 times. I called Sony and they said they wouldn't send anyone out to try to fix it, but they might offer me an in-store credit even though it was outside of warranty.
I unplugged the TV and took it off the wall, and after a few days opened the back to see if the fans were working, and plugged it back in, and the TV started working again. I put it back on the wall, and it lasted about 2 days before the top left quadrant of the screen was a bit darker than the rest of the screen. I changed inputs from HDMI 1 to TV, and the screen reverted back to normal brightness across the whole screen, even when I switched back to HDMI 1. This worked for a day or two, then the Standby light went back to blinking red 13 times.
At that point, I thought maybe HDMI 1 was shot, so I switched the cable box from HDMI 1 to HDMI 3, and the TV started working again for almost a week! Today, the light started blinking red, and no matter what I do, the TV won't start working again. I unplugged all of the inputs and tried restarting, but no luck.
I took it off the wall and opened up the back, and there is a green led light on the fbu board that blinks a few times while the TV is attempting to start, but when that green led on the FBU stops blinking, the red Standby light starts blinking.
Is there anything I can do to diagnose which board may be at fault, or is it the panel? Or do the symptoms themselves point to a defective part?
The Sony service manual I found online says that 13 blinks means it's a Balancer error, possibly caused by:
LCD Panel
Cooling Fan
CB1 Board (KDL-55XBR only)
G6 Board (Power Supply)
FBU Board
Nothing looks visibly wrong on any of the boards that I looked at (G6, G7, GL, FBU, AU boards).
Thanks in advance,
Paul |
