Toshibe 56HM195

I have been been without this television for 6 weeks now. The problem originated with excessive noise which lasted for approx 1 month. One day we went to turn on the telivision and it turned on and then shutoff. I suspected a blown lamp. I removed the lamp and sure enough it was shattered. This particular bulb was only inservice a year under moderate use. I noted a fan behind the bulb and considering the noise and relatively short lamp life I decided that the safe move would be to replace the fan. I attempted to order the fan from Parts Store.com. After several rounds of back order disappointment I contacted Toshiba who informed me that they too had it listed on back order with no projected date. With much frustration I started looking for an aftermarket replacement. I have had no luck finding the exact replacement which is a delta electronics AFB1212L 12 VDC 120x120x25 3 wire fan. I contacted another manufacturer of similar fans and they didn't have that exact fan(they had same size 2 wire but not 3 wire) but they had a fan that was 120x120x32. The fan fits. The only difference is the amp draw. The slightly wider fan draws .4 amps vice .21 amps. (.21 is marked on the fan but .14 is what the website reports) The larger fan reports .4 on the fan but couldn't find actual amp draw on website

I installed the larger fan in the orginal housing into the back of the television and installed a brand new lamp. When turning on the television the fan starts and runs for a couple of seconds, lamp never turns on. Then the entire tv shuts down fan included and the LED is indicating flashing blue led only(no yellow) on about .5 sec interval continously. This is an abnormal operation (including cooling fan stop) according to manual.

I am a not highly knowledgeable in electronics repair but I can do basic plug and bolt on type repairs if given a little direction. Is it possible that the larger fan is not giving the television a run permissive because it is not getting to the required rpm in the required time frame or is it even that smart.

I have contacted toshiba and they have no idea when the fan will be available. Is there anywhere else to get the exactly correct fan or should any 12 V dc fan of the proper size due the trick? If any fan will due does anyone have a good site to get 3 wire fans I have had trouble finding them in the 120mm variety.

Is there a way to make a 2 wire fan work?

If I am on the wrong path please correct me. The lamp fan may just be a distractor to the real problem.

Thanks for all of your help in advance

Put the original fan back in. A two wire fan WILL NOT WORK. The third wire is reporting rotation to the micro and if there is no report the set will shut down. If the old fan rotates it is probably not bad. The noise you heard before the lamp failed was most likely the color wheel.

The reason for short lamp life is many times because you have touched the glass during install. This will greatly shorten lamp life. Or if you have the set power hooked up to your cable box your lamp life will be short.

Hope this helps

I have the identical issue with the Delta AFB1212L fan, in my Toshiba 46HM95. It definitely is this lamp fan, and not the color wheel. I was able to locate one at http://www.cwc-group.com/afb1212l.html, however it is only a 2-wire model. I've tried other 120mm, 12V, 3-wire fans with similar specs, to no avail. The TV turns on for a few seconds, then shuts off. I guess it wants an EXACT replacement.

Should I just keep swapping out fans until one works?
