i had replaced the la7838 vertical ic in this set and it still has a vetical line across screen ( red, green and blue lines) maybe i missed something didn't see any blown fuses

if it has a vertical line, you should look somewhere besides the vertical circuit. Perhaps you meant horizontal line?

have you checked the electrolytic caps around it?

i did have to replace a cap near the power supply i didn't replace any near the ic.
i will have to take an esr meter with me next time i go look at the set, maybe those caps have failed?
