I bought this TV recently off Craiglist for only $25, they did warn me that it had "once" turned on to no picture, just sound. Sure enough, that happened almost immediately once back home. A little whack on the left-rear did bring the picture back one time. The item located in the left-rear, from which emanate 2 thin red wires, 1 thin white wire, and 1 much thicker red wire which goes to the picture tube seems to be the problem. I have (foolishly no doubt) cut out a 5"x5" area from the plastic cover in the back, and a very quick nudge to the thick red wire will often bring the picture back (after a small 'pop'). However, if the picture goes out a 2nd time, nudging the wire doesn't help.
Is replacement of that entire part possible? I can have a friend investigate for free ; however there are many similar or larger HD ready TV's on Craigslist for $60-$80, so spending a lot for a part makes little sense. Thanks for any input. |

flyback transformer. That Pop sound is high voltage dissipating to another part of the circuit... which is pretty dangerous. replacing the flyback is not a big deal if you can solder, but I haven't priced the material cost. |
